Fire Protection Plus – fire detector with temperature and carbon monoxide sensor
Fire detectors are needed for a full-fledged burglar alarm — devices that, even in the early stages of fire and smoke, report an incident. Smoke and gas detectors will help prevent severe consequences of a fire in a room and damage to property.
Types of fire detectors
Before choosing a fire detector, users need to familiarize themselves with its types and functionality.
According to the principle of operation, the detectors are automatic and manual. The automatic ones are triggered after the sensor is activated for the beginning of the fire (smoke, a sharp increase in temperature) — and the manual switches on when a person detects a fire alarm. To turn on the sensor fire siren, you need to turn the lever or press the button on the device. A special key is used to stop the signal.
Fire detectors are divided into groups depending on their sensitivity to various fire causes.
Smoke detectors are ionization and optical. The installation of smoke detectors is considered very effective since the ignition in the initial stage is most often accompanied by the release of smoke. Gas sensors are installed indoors (except for landings and bathrooms). The most common are optical sensors triggered after the interaction of the photodetector and the LED in the smoke chamber. When smoke enters the room, the light from the LED hits the photodetector, which causes a signal to be sent to the burglar alarm control panel.
Ionization fire detectors detect a fire at an early stage and react to grey and black smoke.
Fire detectors are also wired and wireless. The advantages of wired gas sensors are that there is always power from the mains (but it must be taken into account that an unplanned temporary power outage in the building is possible) and that the signal is not obstructed. Wireless sensors do not depend on electrical power but require the timely replacement of batteries. The installation of a wireless system is simpler than a wired one, it is possible to install it on another object, and what is essential — there is no need to hide the wires of the detectors.
When choosing a smoke detector, you need to understand the principles of determining the fire factor in different types of devices. There are thermal sensors, fire detectors and combined detectors.
Thermal sensors are triggered if the temperature rises sharply in the protected area. For some of these sensors, the response threshold is adjusted individually, but for most, this indicator is at the level of 70-72° С.
Fire detectors are activated when a smouldering fire or open flame is detected. The sensors of such gadgets can respond to the electromagnetic radiation of the flame in one or more optical ranges. Fire detectors are installed in places where most combustion products do not emit at all or emit only a small amount of smoke.
Combined detectors respond simultaneously to a sharp rise in temperature and the appearance of smoke in the protected area. Combined fire sensors allow their users to more accurately determine the location of the source of fire and give an alarm.
Basic requirements for fire alarm systems:
- Round-the-clock control of the protected object to detect a fire in the initial stages.
- The most accurate determination of the localization of the fire.
- Availability of a backup autonomous power supply system in case of a power outage.
- No chance of false alarms.
- Providing information in an understandable form.
For a fire alarm to perform its functions, it is necessary to determine the most appropriate type of fire detector for a particular building.
Ajax FireProtect Plus Wireless Fire Detector
FireProtect Plus is a wireless indoor fire detector equipped with a siren. The device works up to four years from a pre-installed battery. FireProtect Plus detects the presence of smoke in the room or a sharp increase in temperature and reacts to dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
The FireProtect Plus smoke detector works both as part of an intruder alarm system connected to the security system’s control panel — hub and stand-alone.When used independently, in the event of fire detection, the sensor will report an alarm with a sound signal and the light turning on the logo.
The FireProtect Plus wireless fire detector is connected to the Ajax security system via the Jeweller secure radio protocol and can operate at a distance of up to 1300 m from the hub in the absence of obstacles.
Principle of operation
The sensor detects smoke using an infrared emitter and a photodetector located in the smoke chamber. When smoke enters the camera, the photodetector detects it by the distortion of the infrared beam.
Since some materials burn without emitting smoke, the fire alarm sensor detects sudden temperature changes. In the event of a fire, the gas sensor will turn on the siren with a volume of 85 dB, and the logo at this moment will turn red to indicate the incident. Users can turn off the triggered sensor siren by holding the Ajax logo on the device body for three seconds or through the Ajax application. If the smoke level or temperature does not return to normal after 10 minutes, the detector will turn on the siren again.
In the event of an alarm, the security system notifies all users with sirens and push notifications, SMS, and calls — the type of notification depends on the settings. And the synchronous alarm function turns on the sirens of all fire detectors in the system as soon as one of them registers an alarm.
Features of the FireProtect Plus wireless fire detector:
- Connection with Ajax Hub at a distance of up to 1300 meters (provided no obstacles).
- Up to three years of operation on pre-installed batteries.
- Management using the Ajax mobile application.
- Mounting without dismantling the case on the SmartBracket mount.
- Protected by a tamper from opening and dismantling.
- Remote testing of the detection zone and communication quality.
- It works both stand-alone, Ajax ocBridge Plus and Ajax uartBridge receivers, and Ajax Hub.
- Adapts power to hub distance — less power consumption.
- The smoke sensor indicates the need for dust removal.
- 24/7 two-way communication with a hub for setup and testing.
- Check performance every 5 minutes.
- An autonomous sensor detects a sharp increase in the temperature in the room, smoke and the appearance of carbon monoxide.
The fire and smoke detector is designed for installation in any room with a risk of fire — shops, private premises, educational institutions, hotels, etc.
Complete set of fire detector FireProtect Plus:
- FireProtect Plus fire detector with temperature and CO sensors.
- Two pre-installed CR2 batteries.
- Backup battery CR2032.
- Mounting kit.
Installation and connection of the Ajax FireProtect Plus wireless fire detector
The FireProtect Plus fire detection sensor connects to the hub in the mobile app. It is mounted on the SmartBracket mount and does not require disassembly of the case.
When installing the Ajax security system, it is necessary to ensure the good audibility of fire detector sirens. The LED indication of the devices should be visible.
It is recommended to install the FireProtect Plus smoke detector on the ceiling. The sensors will detect smoke and temperature fluctuations less effectively when placed on a wall.
It is not recommended to install a fire detector:
- Outdoors and areas with high air circulation (near ceiling fans, air conditioners, hoods and windows).
- Near metal objects and mirrors — cause attenuation or shielding of the radio signal.
- In rooms with humidity or temperature outside the norm (from 0°С to +65°С).
- In places where access to the sensor is difficult.
- In proximity to kitchen electrical appliances.
To add a smoke detector to the Ajax system, you need to do the following:
- Open the Ajax mobile application;
- click Add device and enter the name of the sensor;
- scan or manually enter the QR code (located on the body and packaging of the device);
- set a room;
- turn on the smoke detector.
If several FireProtect Plus sensors are used in the integrated security system, users can activate the synchronous alarm of fire sensors in the hub settings. This function turns on the built-in sirens of all fire detectors as soon as at least one of them registers an alarm.
It is recommended to install a fire detector in all rooms where a fire can occur or carbon monoxide is allowed to form.
A complete security system should protect various factors, including fire and carbon monoxide leaks. FireProtect Plus can work both in the Ajax security system from the hub and stand-alone, signalling an alarm with a built-in siren.
The fire alarm detects smoke using a photoelectric sensor. The fire detector is recommended to be installed in private premises and public places.
