Ajax Systems introduces Coincidence detection — a fire alarm confirmation feature for EN54 Line that helps reduce false alarms. When this feature is enabled, the system does not activate a fire alarm response after a single detector is triggered. Instead, it waits for confirmation from another detector or actuator. This principle helps businesses avoid unnecessary evacuations, downtime, and potential fines. It also makes alerts more credible, so people are more likely to take them seriously.
How Coincidence detection works
Coincidence detection uses two-step confirmation logic before the system activates a full fire alarm response. When the first detector is triggered, the system enters the First alarm state. At this stage, EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller provides LED and sound indication, while fire alarm sounders, VADs, and I/O modules remain inactive. The system does not send the event to the monitoring station. This first step gives responsible staff time to verify the situation and reset the First alarm state if the event is not confirmed.
If the fire alarm is confirmed within the configured time window, the system enters the Full alarm state. The confirmation can come from another detector or an actuator, such as ManualCallPoint (Red) Jeweller or a compatible third-party manual call point. Responsible staff can also initiate this step manually in the CIE settings. The Full alarm state activates all configured alarm responses, including on-site alarms and event transmission to the monitoring station.
If another detector or actuator does not confirm the alarm, the event does not escalate to a full fire alarm response. This helps significantly reduce false alarms caused by dust, steam, or temporary disturbances.
How to enable Coincidence detection
The feature can be configured in the CIE settings in Ajax PRO Desktop or in the mobile Ajax PRO app, and then applied to selected zones.
