Curtain Outdoor Jeweller is a motion detector that protects the outer perimeter yet allows people to move freely within the protected area without triggering false alarms. It monitors an area up to 39 ft long, with a horizontal viewing angle of 8° and a vertical viewing angle¹ of 85°/15°. This outdoor detector is perfect for securing access points, such as passageways, fences, doors, and windows.

Curtain Outdoor Jeweller features dual motion detection technology. It uses two PIR sensors and one K-band microwave sensor to filter out false alarms caused by thermal noise, animals, or plants. The release of this detector strengthens the Ajax product portfolio, which already includes three curtain-type motion detectors with narrow viewing angles. With the new detector providing more installation options, assembling different sets for intrusion protection for each individual request and facility is now even easier.

How dual motion detection technology works

Curtain Outdoor Jeweller has two PIR sensors that detect movement by sensing objects with temperatures close to that of a human body. When this happens, the device performs a radio wave (RF) scan with a K-band microwave sensor that filters out false alarms caused by thermal noise, animals, or plants. The microwave sensor is more precise than the traditional X-band sensor, energy-efficient, and safe for health. The detector only responds if both PIR and microwave sensors are triggered. When this happens, digital algorithms perform a signal analysis. They filter out natural interferences and animals to decide if an alarm should be raised. 

SmartDetect software algorithm filters out thermal interferences when the system is in armed mode. It analyzes IR radiation intensity, thermal spot size, movement speed, and the time it spends in the detection zone to distinguish a human movement from a source of false alarms. Also, Curtain Outdoor Jeweller uses temperature compensation. The detector constantly analyzes the thermal diagram from the PIR sensors and compensates for temperature changes so that the detection is accurate even when the ambient temperature is close to the human body temperature.

One more layer of protection against false alarms

Another way to minimize false alarms with Curtain Outdoor Jeweller is to use its flexible settings. Use a slider on the detector’s enclosure to adjust the detection range and operating mode. Other settings, including sensitivity, can be configured in the Ajax app. The settings help ensure that the device meets the needs of a particular site and rule out even more sources of false alarms. 

You can change the detection range so that the detector still covers doors and windows but ignores high-traffic zones, such as walkways. The sensitivity setting adjusts how the detector filters out false alarms. It can be low in areas prone to false alarms, medium for most sites, and high in obstacle-free zones where immediate threat detection is crucial. 

Motion detection in regular and pet-inclusive environments

Curtain Outdoor Jeweller operates in two modes: regular and with pet immunity on. In the regular mode, any motion within the area triggers an alarm. The pet immunity mode is designed to ignore the movement of animals up to 3.28 ft tall.

Curtain Outdoor Jeweller offers three settings for optimal motion detection:

• At Far position, motion is detected at a distance of up to 39 ft. It is ideal for comprehensive coverage. Pet immunity is not available in this mode. The recommended installation height is 7.87 ft.
• At Near position, motion is detected at a distance of up to 26 ft. It is perfect for smaller spaces. Pet immunity is not available in this mode. The recommended installation height is 7.87 ft.
• With a Pet immunity activated, motion is detected at a distance of up to 39 ft. It is ideal for houses where animals live. The recommended installation height in this case is 3.28 ft.

Easy scalability for any needs

Jeweller and Wings are wireless data transfer protocols that provide fast and reliable two-way communication between the hub and devices. Curtain Outdoor uses Jeweller to transmit alarms and events and Wings to update the firmware.

The communication range is up to 5,500 ft in an open space. The ReX 2 Jeweller range extender can increase the range twofold if necessary and ensure a stable connection for devices located on different floors or far away. 

Hassle-free installation and low maintenance

Curtain Outdoor Jeweller is ready to operate right out of the box, which is standard for Ajax products. 

There are three options for installing the device: 

• To the SmartBracket mounting panel — when the device needs to be installed in places like a narrow passage on a vertical surface.
• To the angle mount. It allows installing the detector in parallel with the guarded facility’s wall. In such a way, the device provides security coverage for entry points such as windows and doors without protruding or additional adjustments.
• To a third-party mount. This option is perfect in irregular installation cases when the standard mounts (SmartBracket or angle mount) are not enough.

There is also an option to protect masking sensors from rain, snow, and dirt (dust, etc.) with the hood included in the Curtain Outdoor Jeweller complete set. Hood will help out even during a thunderstorm to avoid any disturbance related to false alarms.

Ajax apps help quickly make the device part of the system, as long as there is an internet connection. When an installer needs to update settings, this can be done in seconds via the Ajax app — at any time from anywhere. This means that after the initial installation, barely any follow-up site visits are required. This is because most adjustments can be made remotely, which saves the installer’s time.
