What's new in the Cyber Security Act 2024
The Cyber Security Act 2024 establishes a legal foundation for addressing cybersecurity threats in Australia and Malaysia. It sets mandatory requirements for products that connect to the internet, directly or indirectly.
In 2025, this framework was expanded with the Cyber Security (Security Standards for Smart Devices) Rules 2025. These rules provide practical guidance to help manufacturers of consumer electronic devices comply with the Act.
Key requirements of Schedule 1, Part 1, relevant to Ajax products, include:
- Adoption of international best practices for cybersecurity
- Protection of end-user data
- Elimination of universal default passwords
- Secure update processes and file protection
- Transparent vulnerability reporting mechanism
- Data encryption and control over third-party sources, etc.
The Rules came into effect in March 2026. Adherence of all Ajax electronic devices is confirmed by the Statement of Compliance.
