In recent years, smart doorbells have revolutionized doorway monitoring. Yet, it’s still hard to find a doorbell that is both user-friendly and secure. Most options on the market suffer from slow notifications, glitchy live streams, pixelated video, and poor audio quality. Besides, they rely entirely on a stable Wi-Fi connection. On top of that, doorbells are often easy targets for theft.
No wonder DoorBell was a long-awaited addition to the Ajax portfolio: the market sought the signature Ajax experience for such a popular device, and we delivered just that. Unveiled at the Ajax Special Event: Multiverse, DoorBell combines Ajax’s expertise in intrusion protection and video surveillance.
In the following sections, we’ll reveal how our new device addresses key market challenges while delivering convenience and security beyond user expectations.
DoorBell is already available for order.
Professional security at the front door
Ajax DoorBell sets a new standard in user experience by combining smooth operation with advanced security capabilities.
For one, DoorBell flawlessly performs its primary function: welcoming guests without making them wait. As soon as a visitor rings the doorbell, an Ajax user receives a notification, sees who’s at the door, and can start a conversation via an Ajax app. No delays or freezing — proprietary Ajax technologies ensure a clear and seamless exchange on both sides.
When no guests are expected, DoorBell functions as a vigilant security camera. It notifies users of nearby people, animals, or vehicles, records video either continuously1 or upon object detection, and informs both security companies and users of on-site events, even without2 Wi-Fi. Its high-quality camera delivers excellent video and image clarity.

Unmatched video experience
Outstanding visual quality
Equipped with a 4 MP CMOS sensor, DoorBell’s camera delivers crisp, detailed visuals. Its 90° vertical and 155° horizontal viewing angles ensure comprehensive coverage of the entryway.
The visuals are clear and rich in detail, capturing everything from faces to license plates. HDR technology eliminates overexposed areas and deep shadows. Thus, even in challenging outdoor lighting conditions, DoorBell delivers a crisp and evenly lit image. Meanwhile, IR illumination enables the camera to detect objects at a distance of up to 20 ft even in complete darkness.

Instant access to footage
Convenience and security go hand in hand when it comes to DoorBell’s video recordings. Immediate access to footage is essential — whether greeting a guest or responding to an intrusion. Ajax’s proprietary JetSparrow video protocol ensures rapid, peer-to-peer content delivery to Ajax apps with minimal latency. This also guarantees privacy, as no third parties are involved in the data transmission.

AI-driven object recognition
DoorBell uses onboard AI to recognize people, animals, and vehicles. Users can receive notifications upon object identification and filter video footage based on these detections. For example, a homeowner near a busy street may choose to receive notifications only for people approaching the door, rather than for cars passing by. DoorBell’s AI continuously improves through automated over-the-air updates, so users can benefit from the latest features without additional maintenance.

DoorBell’s smart recognition of different object types
No missed guests with precise motion detection
Since AI detection relies on visual input, an additional detection system is needed to improve accuracy and minimize false alarms. Directly beneath the DoorBell camera is a discreet PIR sensor that detects motion up to 13 ft away, even in rain or fog when visual detection is less reliable. A silicon filter prevents false alarms caused by bright sunlight or headlights. Furthermore, motion detection zones can be fine-tuned via Ajax apps, which is ideal for minimizing unwanted alerts.

Clear two-way audio on both ends
With Ajax DoorBell, users can communicate with visitors from anywhere in the world via an Ajax app. Ajax has optimized the audio quality on both hardware and software levels to ensure that users and their guests can hear each other clearly — even in a noisy outdoor setting.
The built-in speaker produces 85 dB of sound, nearly matching the volume of an indoor siren. At the same time, constant noise suppression and echo cancellation help users get a better sense of the visitor’s voice.
Doorbell connection redefined: enhanced Wi-Fi with a reliable backup
Despite its popularity, Wi-Fi has a crucial downside: it tends to lack stability, which is especially concerning when it matters most. While a laggy phone call might be inconvenient, doorbell delays are simply unacceptable. Security has no margin for error, whether it’s a laggy live stream, delayed notifications, or worse — disconnections during a potential intrusion. On top of that, Wi-Fi vulnerabilities can be exploited by intruders to jam the network.
That’s why DoorBell was designed with a strong emphasis on robust connectivity. Its advanced radio architecture makes the device less vulnerable to interference, ensuring smooth signal transmission up to 100 ft through concrete walls, which is more than enough for uninterrupted operation in a large private house. For installers, this means less installation hassle, as there’s no need to position the router directly near the entrance.

However, Ajax devices do not rely solely on such a vulnerable technology. Even if Wi-Fi fails, DoorBell doesn’t turn into a brick but continues to keep watch over the doorway. When connected to an Ajax hub, DoorBell can operate though a fallback communication channel. The device uses the Jeweller radio protocol to transmit events and alarms, and the Wings protocol to send visual evidence to Ajax apps. Both proprietary protocols are designed to detect interference and jamming, with built-in frequency hopping for enhanced protection.

Great alone, stronger in a system
DoorBell offers key features even when used as a standalone device, including instant notifications for calls and object recognition, as well as livestreaming and two-way communication via an Ajax apps.
However, integrating DoorBell into an Ajax security system unlocks its full potential. When connected to a hub, it is protected from Wi-Fi jamming and outages, while ensuring that critical alerts and photo verification reach both users and monitoring companies.
For facilities that require video archiving, Ajax provides NVR and Ajax Cloud Storage3 options. NVR stores up to 16 TB, while Ajax Cloud Storage enables precise recording based on detected objects. Both solutions offer fast, seamless navigation with fully secured footage.

Data security without compromises
Traditional doorbells, being exposed and within easy reach, are vulnerable to tampering. It is a no-brainer for intruders to simply remove the device and steal the SD card that stores all visual content. This is not the case with Ajax: DoorBell is developed with a strong emphasis on the transparency and privacy, for which Ajax video devices are renowned.
DoorBell is equipped with a tamper that instantly alerts both users and monitoring companies to any unauthorized attempt to remove the device. On top of that, it captures a snapshot or video clip of the perpetrator, making identification easier.
Even if the device is removed, stealing video recordings isn’t an option — DoorBell has no internal storage for this very reason. Instead, recordings are securely stored on an NVR or in Ajax Cloud Storage. If neither storage option is used, only authorized users can access the live footage.
Furthermore, DoorBell inherited compliance with strict privacy standards established for Ajax video devices, including the NDAA requirements.

Functionality without aesthetic compromises
When designing a smart doorbell, most manufacturers might not prioritize visual appeal, which may result in bulky, unattractive devices. Meanwhile, DoorBell is designed with both function and aesthetics in mind.

DoorBell’s compact enclosure fits in the tightest spaces, such as narrow door frames or wall-adjacent doorways. Its minimalist design, available in four neutral colors, complements any exterior. Additionally, a colored LED ring around the button adds a stylish yet functional element: it guides users and indicates the current state of the device.

Versatile installation and hassle-free maintenance
Built to withstand harsh outdoor environments, DoorBell operates reliably in temperatures as low as −13 °F and as high as 140 °F. The IP54-rated enclosure performs reliably in humid climates and polluted urban areas. The built-in backup battery not only provides up to two hours of autonomous operation, but also maintains stable device performance in the cold thanks to the auto-heating feature.

Installation is a breeze with the ready-to-go kit, the included SmartBracket mounting panel, and simple QR code scanning. Bundled wedge brackets provide even more options for optimal device installation. The entire configuration process is as simple as with other Ajax devices: it requires only a mobile Ajax app and a few minutes of the installer’s time.
DoorBell notifies users of a visitor both via Ajax apps and through on-site sound signals. To enable audible alerts, the device can be connected to an existing wired chime using the BellKit bypass. Alternatively, if the security system includes sirens, they can signal a visitor’s arrival using the Chime feature.

Once installed and configured, DoorBell is ready to welcome guests for years to come, requiring minimal on-site maintenance. With automatic over-the-air updates, users can access the latest features without needing to buy a new device.
