Security begins with control, and the keypad remains a key element of that control. At Ajax Special Event: Multiverse, we introduced our first outdoor keypad, available in two versions: Superior KeyPad Outdoor Fibra (wired) and KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller (wireless). Both devices are designed to manage security and automation outside the building, with a rugged enclosure and large mechanical buttons. In this article, we will focus on the wireless product and explore how the keypad works, what makes it durable and user-friendly, and why it’s a strong addition to professional security system.
Reliable control in unpredictable conditions
KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller is a wireless keypad for managing security and automation devices outside a facility, yet perfectly suited for indoor installations where durability is critical. With a protected lid and sealed enclosure, the device resists moisture ingress, condensation, or any other harsh conditions and can be installed in any environment with an increased risk of damage or vandalism. The keypad offers full system control through cards, key fobs, codes, and smartphones, with LED and sound confirmation for every action.
KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller is suitable for installation near outdoor gates, garage entrances, and perimeter access points. It is ideal for private houses, construction sites, warehouses, logistics hubs, commercial buildings, public spaces, and remote or industrial facilities. Thanks to its long-lasting battery life and wireless operation, the keypad is suitable for the property with temporary security needs.
The device meets the EN 50131 (Grade 2) certification requirements, confirming its reliability for professional security installations. For projects with even higher security needs, we recommend using the wired version— Superior KeyPad Outdoor Fibra. It complies with EN 50131 (Grade 3) requirements and other region-specific standards.

Three missions in one device
KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller combines three essential functions.
Security management
KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller allows users to manage the security of an entire facility or separate groups and activate Night Mode — all from a single device. It can operate in bypass mode, allowing users to start an entry delay to confirm the security mode change via the main keypad, for example, with another Ajax keypad installed inside the facility. A dedicated Function button can be configured as a panic button or to mute fire alarms.

Automation device control
The keypad can run automation scenarios, controlling automation devices such as relays, sockets, or shut-off valves. For example, pressing the OK button can open a garage door and turn on outdoor lights at the same time. Besides, the buttons' backlight indicates the automation device state1: red for off and green for on.
Sound and light indication
Each action is confirmed with a sound and a flash of light. The keypad notifies users of alarms, entry/exit delays, doors being opened (Chime), and security mode changes with a built-in buzzer and LED indicators. Both volume and brightness can be adjusted in the Ajax apps. The digits stay visible thanks to a durable backlight, and the keypad works reliably even when used with gloves on.
Authentication methods and control features
KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller supports multiple ways to control the system, offering flexibility for both temporary and permanent users. It works with Pass cards, Tag key fobs, smartphones, and various access codes.
- Contactless control. Pass cards and Tag key fobs are ideal for a facility with many users and high traffic of people: construction sites, offices, or retail spaces. These devices eliminate the need to remember passcodes or repeatedly set up app accounts. Instead, personnel simply present a card or key fob to the keypad's reader.
- Smartphone access. The keypad supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) authentication. With access rights granted, users can arm or disarm the system simply by bringing their smartphone near the keypad — no passcodes, access devices, or hassle. BLE works with iOS and Android devices and protects against spoofing or unauthorized access.
- Access codes. KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller supports several types of codes: one keypad code, personal user codes, temporary codes for unregistered users and Rapid Response Unit (RRU) codes. These options allow secure access for staff, visitors, service personnel, or emergency responders.
Access rights and codes for KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller are easily managed via Ajax apps. Lost access devices or compromised codes can be handled remotely with just a few clicks — there is no need to visit the site.

Multiple operating modes
KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller supports two operating modes configured by a PRO user in the Ajax app: primary and secondary. The user can switch between them with a long press on the OK button. Each mode can be configured to perform one of several actions:
- Security management. The keypad arms or disarms the entire site or certain groups and activates Night mode.
- Automation control mode. The keypad manages relays, sockets, or shut-off valves. A single press can run a pre-set scenario: turn on outdoor lights, open a gate, or power off appliances.

Besides, the keypad can operate in a bypass mode, starting an entry delay when a user enters the premises. This gives time to reach the main keypad — for example, inside the building — and confirm the security mode change. During this delay, certain detectors can be temporarily deactivated. If no confirmation follows, the system triggers an alarm. This functionality helps secure access points while giving users flexibility during entry.
KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller also supports the unavoidability principle, also known as Zwangsläufigkeit — a requirement defined by the VdS standard and widely used in German security systems. The feature ensures that disarming actions take place within a fixed procedure, helping to prevent false alarms and unnecessary dispatches of rapid response units (RRUs).
How to configure an Ajax system according to the unavoidability principle
Sturdy design for demanding environments
The new keypad is made to withstand harsh conditions — rain, snow, temperature changes, and physical impact. Its stainless steel enclosure works in temperatures from −25 °C to +60 °C, and has IP66 and IK08 protection for water, dust, and shock resistance. A protective lid shields the keypad from direct exposure and adds a layer of physical protection.
The keypad's narrow form factor allows installation in limited spaces, such as narrow facade panels or glass entrances. Its mechanical buttons are large, tactile, and comfortable to use even with gloves. The symbols are backlit and resistant to wear, so the most-used digits cannot be identified by touch or visual marks.

Reliable sabotage protection
KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller includes multi-level protection against unauthorized access. It resists code guessing and blocks unverified access attempts. The device responds only to authorized Pass cards, Tag key fobs, or smartphones. DESFire® chips in cards and key fobs comply with the ISO 14443 international standard and feature robust 128-bit encryption and copy protection. The BLE reader simply does not react on a smartphone if it's not authorized via Ajax apps.
The keypad also supports duress codes to enhance personal safety during emergencies. If a user is forced to disarm the system, entering a duress code simulates normal disarming, while discreetly alerting the monitoring station and other users to the situation.
Popular culture often shows keypads being hacked in seconds — but that's far from reality. Learn how Ajax devices are designed to prevent such scenarios.
Two tamper buttons trigger an alarm if someone attempts to detach the device from the surface or remove it from the mounting panel. The enclosure is rated IK08 for impact resistance and remains intact even under physical stress or direct hits.
All of Ajax's core anti-sabotage features, such as device authentication against spoofing, regular polling, and communication failure detection, are also applied.
Power and communication
KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller operates on two pre-installed CR123A batteries and can also be powered by a 12 V⎓ external source. When external power is connected, the batteries serve as a backup.
The device uses Jeweller radio technology, which ensures long-range communication — up to 1,700 m in open space — while maintaining low power consumption. Jeweller operates on the TDMA principle, optimizing performance even in complex systems.
This combination allows for stable operation in remote or infrastructure-limited locations, without frequent maintenance or signal issues.
Quick and simple installation
Installing KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller takes just minutes. The SmartBracket panel features a built-in soft spacer to fix the keypad firmly against the wall when installed on a curved surface and allows mounting without disassembling the device enclosure. A built-in spirit level and slightly bigger fixing points assist the professional in achieving a perfectly accurate mounting position. The keypad is added to a hub by a QR code, and all setup is completed remotely via Ajax apps.
Thanks to robust hardware and long-lasting power, the device requires minimal maintenance after installation.

KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller expands the possibilities of Ajax security systems. Thanks to its wireless technology, durable enclosure, and flexible access control options, the keypad becomes a perfect solution for both temporary and permanent installations — from construction sites and commercial buildings to industrial zones, public facilities, and private residences. The keypad combines security control, automation, and clear event indication in one compact device. Easy to install, effortless to maintain, and protected against sabotage, KeyPad Outdoor Jeweller is built to perform under pressure — wherever you need control.
