NVR HDC: local video monitoring at off-grid sites

NVR HDC: local video monitoring at off-grid sites

Even the most advanced video systems depend on stable infrastructure – something many remote and temporary sites simply do not have. Yet the need for uninterrupted recording and access to footage remains. To address this challenge, Ajax Systems releases NVR HDC, a network video recorder for off-grid sites. It operates on low-voltage power sources, has an HDMI output, and features a built-in video management system (VMS) – all to make full-fledged local video monitoring possible even without mains power or reliable connectivity.

The new product extends the capabilities of the NVR H series and is already available to order:

  • NVR HDC (8-ch) – an 8-channel version
  • NVR HDC (16-ch) – a 16-channel version

Surveillance despite challenges

NVR HDC is designed for locations that function under infrastructure constraints. The device runs on  low-voltage external batteries (8–16 V⎓, up to 4 A), enabling autonomous video surveillance wherever mains power is unavailable or prone to outages. It means the new NVR is a perfect fit for construction sites, seasonal facilities, pop-up retail spaces, event venues, temporary worksites, remote location, and facilities under renovation.

Flexible monitoring – on-site or anywhere else

HDMI for a local setup

NVR HDC is equipped for on-site video monitoring of both Ajax and third-party cameras. Featuring an HDMI output, two USB ports, and a built-in VMS, the device allows users to view live and recorded footage directly on a connected monitor. Guards, operators, and other on-site staff gain instant visual control even without internet connection. When connectivity is stable, site monitoring and access to archives are also available via Ajax apps. As a result, users maintain full situational awareness both on-site and remotely.

Built-in video management system

The VMS runs directly on the video recorder – with no need for additional software. The hardware requirements are minimal: just a mouse and keyboard to navigate the interface. As for a video wall, it makes simultaneous monitoring of multiple cameras easier because users can:

  • Customize the layout to stay focused on what matters.
  • Drag and drop streams to rearrange them.
  • Use a slideshow feature to have the streams switch automatically.

To prevent unauthorized access to footage on-site, the VMS supports local accounts. They enable users to view live feed and archive footage via the VMS with no access to system settings. Meanwhile, users with extended rights can log in with either their local or cloud account.

Efficient storage at every stage

NVR HDC pairs large storage capacity of up to 16 TB with an efficient archive navigation. No matter how deep the archive is, users can easily find the required footage thanks to a helpful timeline, calendar view, and filters by event and motion.

There is also simultaneous archive playback feature available in the built-in VMS and desktop Ajax apps. Users can view synchronized video recordings from multiple cameras1 within a single video wall to analyze the same incident from different angles and gain additional context.

To enable efficient storage use, the network video recorder features smart motion detection. Like other Ajax NVRs, the new model supports recording triggered by motion in defined zones and extends this capability to third-party cameras. As a result, HDD2 stores only relevant footage, and archive searches become even more convenient.

Integration via ONVIF and RTSP

The capabilities of NVR HDC can reach beyond the Ajax ecosystem. The recorder supports ONVIF (Profiles S, T, and M3) and RTSP protocols, which opens up numerous opportunities to upgrade and retrofit existing video setups. Use the device to smarten up current video surveillance and management systems with powerful Ajax features.

Effortless installation and maintenance

Getting NVR HDC up and running is straightforward. Configuration is streamlined through Ajax apps — no need for additional plugins, web interface, or manual setup of each device or user. The apps also help keep the system under control and handle maintenance efficiently. They provide real-time device state, including HDD capacity, CPU load, and RAM usage, and instant notifications should any issue arise. Much of the troubleshooting can be done remotely: a PRO with relevant access rights can adjust settings or run over-the-air firmware updates via Ajax apps – without the hassle of on-site visits.

Solution to defy constraints

Sites with no stable power or connectivity present a major challenge for video surveillance systems. Ajax video portfolio expands to overcome the limits. Its latest addition – NVR HDC – delivers interrupted surveillance on low-voltage power supply and full-fledged monitoring thanks to the built-in VMS and HDMI output. Supporting both Ajax and third-party cameras and maintaining performance under infrastructure constraints, NVR HDC is a smart and reliable solution for off-grid sites.
