Many factors can affect video quality in security cameras — and Ajax video surveillance is designed to address them all. Ajax video devices combine advanced lenses, hybrid illumination, and software technologies to deliver crisp footage in any lighting conditions, regardless of installation environment.
Now, Ajax takes this a step further by introducing scene-specific settings. This update enables professionals and end users to fine-tune video devices and maintain consistent image clarity in both daytime and nighttime scenes.
24/7 video surveillance: challenges behind consistent clarity
In environments with variable lighting, a single set of image settings cannot deliver the same level of detail and color accuracy around the clock. Different lighting conditions affect each frame in unique ways:
- Daytime sunlight creates bright, high-contrast scenes, while reflections from glass, water, or glossy surfaces can wash out important details.
- Nighttime recording that relies on infrared illumination can result in low-light noise and grainy footage.
- Artificial white light at night often produces bright hotspots near the source and deep shadows farther away.
Day and night conditions represent opposite extremes, so one configuration is rarely optimal for both. For example, sharpness settings optimized for daytime can amplify noise at night. As a result, details essential for security events — such as faces or license plates — may become harder to identify.
Adding flexibility with scene-specific settings
With the new image settings in Ajax apps, professionals and users can optimize key parameters to fully leverage Ajax devices' hardware capabilities. They can create presets tailored to different lighting scenarios:
- Daytime monitoring
- Nighttime with infrared illumination
- Nighttime with white light illumination.

Each video device can be assigned its own custom configuration. Professionals and users can choose between General and Scene-specific image settings, then fine-tune brightness, color saturation, sharpness, and contrast to achieve the required image quality and level of detail.
For the best results, professionals and users should configure each scene under the corresponding lighting conditions — setting daytime parameters during daylight and adjusting nighttime settings after dark.
Once configured, the video device automatically switches between presets, delivering clear footage, accurate colors, balanced exposure, and maximum detail around the clock.
Alternatively, professionals and users can configure a single General preset for constant use. This option is ideal for predictable environments without distinct day/night changes, such as indoor spaces with stable artificial lighting or sites monitored primarily at night.
Technical requirements
To access scene-specific settings, Ajax apps must be updated to the following or later versions:
- Ajax Security System 3.41 (iOS/Android);
- Ajax PRO: Tool for Engineers 2.41 (iOS/Android);
- Ajax Desktop 5.41(Windows/macOS);
- Ajax PRO Desktop 5.41 (Windows/macOS).
Additionally, make sure video devices run the following firmware versions or later:
- Basic and HL cameras — 2.571;
- DoorBell — 2.563;
- IndoorCam — 2.563.
