Ajax Ultra DP: simplifying dual path signaling setup

Ajax Ultra DP: simplifying dual path signaling setup

In the high-stakes world of security, a single communication failure can mean the difference between protection and vulnerability. The emergence of complex cyber and physical security challenges has driven a critical transformation in alarm signaling technologies. Modern security networks have evolved from weak single-channel infrastructures to dual-channel communication systems that offer significantly increased reliability.

Ajax Ultra DP simplifies dual-path signaling configuration, providing unprecedented ease for installers and alarm receiving centers (ARCs). It unlocks new recurring revenue streams, reduces setup complexity, and offers remote management capabilities. Unveiled at Special Event 2024, the service is featured in the YouTube presentation. Ajax Ultra DP is launching primarily in the UK, with other regions able to request availability through the application.

Here’s all you need to know about the new Ajax service.

Background and evolution of alarm signaling

Let’s take a moment to reflect on the past and see why Ajax Ultra DP launch marks a significant shift in the industry.

Early alarm systems were critically vulnerable due to their reliance on a single communication path, typically traditional telephone networks. If this primary line was compromised — cut, damaged, or disrupted — the entire security system would fail, leaving a property defenseless against potential threats.

channel

The introduction of dual-path signaling was a technological advancement in alarm communication.

  • Primary сhannel: Internet or PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).
  • Backup сhannel: mobile networks.
channels

With two independent communication channels, dual-path systems ensure backup and significantly enhance system resilience. This way, if the primary channel was compromised, the backup channel would take over, maintaining uninterrupted communication with an ARC.

Regulatory landscape and standards

The security industry didn’t just adopt this new approach voluntarily. Dual path signaling became a necessity required by standards like EN 50136 and PD 6669:2017, particularly for the UK market. These standards define the performance requirements for alarm signaling and remain crucial when it comes to strict insurance and ARC demands.

The adoption of these standards spread beyond the UK, influencing global markets striving to improve their alarm signaling reliability.

Grades of single-path and dual-path signaling

There are different grades of standards for both single-path (SP) and dual-path (DP) sіgnaling: SP2, SP3, SP4, SЗ5, DP2, DP3, and DP4. These grades classify systems based on their ability to reliably transmit alarms.

SP system classification factors:
  • Ping frequency. Regular status checks to monitor connectivity.
  • Connection type. It affects the speed and stability of data transmission.
  • Failure response mechanisms. Processes that identify and address connection issues.
DP system classification factors:
  • Primary and backup channels. At least one channel remains operational.
  • Ping frequency for each path. Checking on both paths to detect potential issues early.
  • Signal delivery time. How quickly the signal reaches the ARC.
  • Status checks. Error detection and correction mechanisms to ensure data integrity.
  • Data encryption. It protects signals from interception or interference.

Higher alarm signaling levels (e.g., SP4, DP4) have more frequent pings, ensuring faster detection of connection issues. By selecting the appropriate signaling level, installers and ARCs can tailor systems to their client’s specific needs and risk levels, balancing cost and performance.

Common installation challenges of DP system

Despite being a long-standing standard in alarm signaling, dual-path solutions often come with significant challenges. The complexity of the setup process is a major issue. It typically requires additional hardware to set the primary and backup communication channels. Installers must integrate various devices, often from different manufacturers, which inevitably leads to compatibility issues and longer configuration times.

Another challenge is that many systems rely on outdated technologies, such as landlines. Landlines limit the system’s flexibility and make installations bulky, requiring additional infrastructure like telephone wiring and physical connection points. This dependency increases the time and effort required to complete an installation.

Additionally, the process often depends on external communication equipment, which must be installed, configured, and tested separately. This adds another layer of complexity and increases the chances of errors during setup.

Ajax’s innovative solution

Ajax Systems has revolutionized the traditionally complex dual path signaling setup by introducing Ultra DP signaling presets. Designed to eliminate the installation complexities, Ajax Ultra DP offers an intuitive solution that easily meets the strictest industry demands.

Simplified setup

Ajax’s approach transforms a traditionally hardware-heavy, time-consuming process into a quick and seamless experience. The built-in communicator in an Ajax hub and pre-installed Ajax SIM1 remove the need for external equipment and complex wiring, making installation faster and more accessible.

With Ajax Ultra DP, dual path signaling is configured entirely through Ajax PRO apps. The process is straightforward:

  1. Connect an Ajax hub to the network.
  2. Open the PRO app and go to the Security Companies tab.
  3. Select the service provider and desired signaling level.
  4. Let the system handle the rest with automatic settings and activation.

This smooth workflow saves time and reduces errors, allowing installers to focus on system performance rather than setup details. Ajax Ultra DP doesn’t just meet existing standards; it raises the bar. It ensures full compliance with insurance and security industry requirements while providing:

  • Faster installation with fewer steps and no additional hardware.
  • Enhanced flexibility, making it easier to manage systems remotely.
  • Reliability through pre-configured options that adapt to market needs.

Who benefits from Ajax Ultra DP, and how

Ajax Ultra DP creates value for every participant in the security ecosystem. The business model involves two key parties: installers and distributors or ARCs.

Both installers and distributors or ARCs benefit financially with monthly income based on each Ajax system with an activated DP category. Ajax Systems charges distributors/ARCs, who, in turn, charge installers, and they pass the cost on to end users.

The selected level (DP2, DP3, or DP4) determines the subscription plan. Importantly, there’s no Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP), giving distributors/ARCs and installers the flexibility to set pricing based on their market and earn a reasonable income per client.

From distributors/ARCs and installers to end users, the solution delivers efficiency, transparency, and reliability. By streamlining the dual path signaling configuration, Ajax Ultra DP maintains the highest standards of performance and security.

For installers

Ajax Ultra DP provides installers with a simple and efficient way to configure dual-path signaling, reducing setup time and effort while increasing reliability.

Easy-to-use equipment with automatic setup

The new service eliminates the need for additional equipment. The Ajax hub comes with an in-built communicator and pre-installed Ajax SIM1, which automatically connects to the most reliable mobile network available. The entire process takes just a few steps in the app. There’s no need for manual configurations, so installation became quicker and less cumbersome.

Intuitive interface for DP configuration

With a few taps in the PRO app, installers can:

  • Select the desired signaling grade and be certain that the ARC will receive the update automatically.
  • Adjust settings, pause, or resume services remotely.

This simplicity reduces setup time and makes managing systems easier than ever.

Dashboard in PRO Desktop

The PRO Desktop dashboard offers a centralized view of all hubs connected to Ajax Services. Installers can monitor real-time statistics, check system statuses, and ensure everything runs smoothly. This powerful tool simplifies workflows and enhances service reliability by providing instant insights into system performance.
