Client

A private vault in Italy

A client has a private vault that requires a comprehensive security solution against intrusion. The decision to reinforce the existing security system of the facility followed a successful attack on a neighboring vault. The client sought ways to eliminate the system’s vulnerabilities and blind spots.

Challenge

Protect a high-risk facility against experienced intruders

Like any high-risk facility, vaults often become a lucrative target for skilled intruders who use intricate methods and advanced tools to access valuables. The client needed a well-rounded security system to defend every vault surface, including the security door, ceilings, walls, and floor. The system had to withstand even advanced intrusion and sabotage techniques, such as using thermal lances, picks, drills, or diamond discs, as well as detector masking.

Special emphasis was placed on the attic, as this zone was the system’s blind spot in a previous incident at a neighboring vault. Back then, the intruders triggered a continuous alarm in the attic to convince the vault owners of a malfunction. The owners decided to disable the detector, as they believed it produced false alarms. That is why the client of Mondialtec SD srls wanted to have an option to check the situation in the attic remotely at any time.

The client also wanted to keep the whole security system in view. They required an option to be informed about any system event anytime and verify alarms. Since third-party devices were already installed at the facility, they had to be integrated into one ecosystem and also be monitored remotely.

Solution

Wired security system with photo verification and third-party device integration

After thoroughly analyzing the client’s needs, Mondialtec SD srls opted for the Ajax Fibra product line. The line includes top-class wired devices compliant with the Grade 3 standard, which makes them a preferred choice for high-risk environments.

In the case of the client’s vault, uninterrupted communication within the system is a priority. The brain of the security system is Hub Hybrid (4G), a hybrid control panel with extensive compatibility and connection options. The hub features several communication channels, including Ethernet and two SIM cards supporting 2G/3G/4G (LTE) networks. The device automatically switches between channels if one fails. Thanks to a backup battery, Hub Hybrid also guards the site even during power outages. The 7 Ah backup battery can provide a system of 30 detectors with backup power for 60 hours. All these features ensure that the security system does not stop its operation and preserves integrity even in challenging conditions.

The existing alarm system included several third-party devices, such as selective microphones and pure microwave probes. To incorporate them into the Ajax system, MultiTransmitter Fibra, an integration module that connects up to 18 wired devices, was used. The module securely transmits alarm, malfunction, and event data to the hub via Fibra wired communication technology. Additionally, a backup battery installed in MultiTransmitter Fibra contributes to stable autonomous system operation.

On-site access to the vault is controlled by KeyPad Fibra, a wired touch keypad. It manages security modes, features a panic button, and supports several access code types. In addition to standard keypad and user codes, installers can set up codes for unregistered users, for instance, to allow cleaning service workers to enter the room. Duress codes are also available: they simulate system disarming and send a silent alarm to the security company.

To detect any attempts to open or knock out the vault’s security door, DoorProtect G3 Fibra, a wired opening, shock, and tilt detector, was installed. The device immediately sends an alarm to the hub if it detects door movement, impact, or angle changes. Additionally, the detector features magnetic masking protection. DoorProtect G3 Fibra compares the current magnetic field value with the one recorded during calibration and notifies users and the security company of any masking attempts.

One of the client’s key requests was the ability to verify the alarms at the facility. In addition to the existing cameras, the security company equipped the attic with MotionCam (PhOD) Fibra, a wired IR motion detector supporting various types of photo verification. The detector can be configured to take photos upon detecting motion, after any system alarm, by schedule, or by scenario. Users can also take photos on demand anytime to check the situation. The wired detector includes a built-in backup battery to ensure hours of continued operation even after a power failure.

To control the power supply to third-party sirens and fog machines and thus connect them to the vault’s security system, MultiRelay Fibra was installed. In addition to simplified monitoring, the relay provides an option to engage third-party devices in automation scenarios. The sirens and fog machines are triggered when other detectors in the system activate an alarm and deter intruders.

The entire system is always under control thanks to Ajax apps. Mondialtec SD srls, the installation company, can manage the system and verify threats remotely, thus saving time and resources by avoiding unnecessary dispatches. The end user, in turn, can keep the whole system in sight on their smartphone. Data-rich notifications of every change or malfunction in the system facilitate monitoring and provide the client with peace of mind.

Why Ajax

Reliable connection. Ajax hubs support multiple communication channels and automatically switch between them in case of a power failure to ensure uninterrupted connectivity. The system remains fully operational even during power outages thanks to backup batteries.

Photo verification of alarms. Ajax MotionCam devices not only detect motion but also send a series of pictures to verify alarms. Photos can be taken immediately after an alarm, by schedule, by scenario, or on demand.

Round-the-clock remote control. Users and security companies receive detailed notifications of every alarm or event at the facility. Third-party devices also report their status when connected to the Ajax ecosystem through integration modules or relays.
