Introducing Hub BP Jeweller: a control panel for off-grid sites

Ajax Systems expands its product portfolio with Hub BP Jeweller, the company’s first control panel that operates entirely on battery power. This new device meets a growing demand for security systems at sites without permanent access to electricity, such as a vacant property, remote locations, and construction sites.

Protecting such facilities presents unique challenges. A security system must be autonomous and easy to install and relocate while providing reliable round-the-clock protection. Hub BP Jeweller complies with these requirements by combining Ajax’s proven security technologies with advanced power management features. This makes it possible to build comprehensive security systems at sites where connecting to the power grid is impossible.

Unveiling the unique capabilities of Hub BP Jeweller

Exceptional autonomy with the Battery power saver mode

Hub BP Jeweller introduces a new approach to power management in security systems. The hub operates without mains power, relying entirely on batteries. To maximize its autonomy, the hub features the Battery power saver mode (BPS). This mode extends the battery life while providing reliable protection.

Another distinctive feature of the new hub is that it will be available in two versions: one as a hub in a casing and the other as a board without a casing for installation in Case D. The second version is planned for release in 2025.

The hub’s autonomy depends on the selected power source. For the version with a casing, Ajax offers several battery options:

  • A 27 Ah LiFePO4 18650 rechargeable battery providing 4 months1 of hub autonomous operation
  • A 95 Ah LTC ER34615-LD non-rechargeable battery with a lifespan of up to 17 months1
  • A third-party 7 Ah lead-acid rechargeable battery, operating for two months1

Internal battery NB (7.2V/95Ah)

Internal battery RB (6.4V/27Ah)

For installations requiring extended autonomy, Hub BP Jeweller supports external power sources. When a 600 Ah non-rechargeable zinc-air battery is connected to the hub, the system can operate in the Battery power saver mode for up to 6 years, while the internal battery serves as a backup source.

The version of the hub without a casing supports higher-capacity power sources:

  • A 78 Ah LiFePO4 18650 rechargeable battery with a lifespan of 15 months1
  • A 190 Ah LTC ER34615-LD non-rechargeable battery providing up to 3.5 years1 of hub autonomous operation

Hub BP Jeweller without a casing is also compatible with a lead-acid rechargeable battery and a large external zinc-air non-rechargeable battery.

Ajax and third-party batteries supported by Hub BP Jeweller

The diversity of battery options allows installers to choose the power source that best suits their project and site-specific needs. This wide range of choices also means fewer on-site visits are required to replace batteries, resulting in lower maintenance costs and increased convenience. This makes Hub BP Jeweller ideal for the property without a permanent power supply, from construction sites to remote cabins in the forest.

The battery power saver mode is crucial for maximizing the hub’s autonomy. Let’s take a closer look at how it works.

Battery power saver mode

In the Battery power saver mode, the hub optimizes its performance while maintaining all essential security functions. The system continues to transmit alarms and photo verifications but reduces server polling interval and direct connections to monitoring stations to once every 6 hours (adjustable from 1 to 24 hours). For additional energy saving, Hub BP Jeweller suspends background firmware updates, stops sending logs to the server, and turns off the LED backlight. These small changes result in significant energy saving without compromising security.

BPS’s flexibility opens up new possibilities for security professionals. For example, a tiny battery can last for a year when only alarm notifications are required, which makes it ideal for long-term, low-maintenance installations.

Reliable communication through any barriers

Hub BP Jeweller addresses not only power issues but also communication challenges. Protecting vacant property has its own peculiarities. For example, control panels are installed away from places where a potential intruder can find them, such as in the basement. While such sites enhance physical security, they can compromise signal quality. To address this challenge, the new hub supports another important innovation: the option to connect ExternalAntenna.

ExternalAntenna is designed to enhance Jeweller, Wings, and cellular signals. The hub supports the connection of up to three ExternalAntenna devices, each equipped with a three-meter cable, allowing flexible placement for optimal signal reception. For example, when the hub is installed in a metal vault, the antennas can be positioned at a higher level or outside the structure for unobstructed signal transmission.

The hub continuously monitors antenna connection status and can detect cable breakage. If the cable integrity is compromised, the hub immediately notifies the CMS and automatically switches to the built-in antenna. While this fallback connection may not be optimal, it ensures the system maintains communication capabilities.

Permanent connection

Hub BP Jeweller is not connected to the internet via Ethernet and Wi-Fi, as these communication channels are not used at sites without electricity. Instead, the hub uses two SIM cards, supporting 2G, 3G, and LTE networks. This dual connectivity allows automatic channel switching in seconds, ensuring the hub remains online despite communication issues. It is possible to use different operators for each SIM card to enhance error tolerance, providing a stable and redundant connection. Ajax apps provide real-time status monitoring, which displays each communication channel’s status and SIM card traffic consumption.

Proven Ajax security features

Let's consider the standard but essential features of Hub BP Jeweller that ensure reliable security system operation.

Photo verification

The hub supports MotionCam and MotionCam Outdoor detectors, enabling photo verification of alarms. When movement is detected, the system delivers both alerts and a series of photos, allowing for immediate visual assessment of the situation at the site.

Comprehensive coverage

With a communication range of up to 6,550 ft between the hub and other devices, Hub BP Jeweller can control up to 100 Ajax devices and manage 9 security groups with 50 users. This makes it suitable for the property of any size, from private homes to large industrial facilities.

Strong sabotage protection

The system immediately notifies users and the security company of physical tampering, jamming, and hacking attempts. All data is protected by block encryption, and the hub verifies the unique parameters of each connected device during communication sessions. Thus, only authenticated devices can interact with the hub. Ajax apps also notify of the loss and restoration of the connection between the hub and the Ajax Cloud server.

Unique wireless technology

Hub BP Jeweller uses Ajax proprietary radio protocols, namely Jeweller and Wings, to deliver secure and efficient communication with devices. With a wireless communication range of up to 6,550 ft between the hub and all devices in the system, the control panel offers extensive coverage for the property of various sizes and types.

Hassle-free installation

Installation requires minimal effort: simply connect the hub to the power supply, insert SIM cards, and scan the QR code using an Ajax app. The system can be managed remotely through Ajax apps. Easy installation and remote management reduce the need for constant on-site visits, saving time and resources for installers and security companies.
