For users who entrust their data to a security system, the highest level of protection is a necessity, not a benefit. Ajax Systems builds security into the foundation of its products and validates it through certification to strict international standards.
This time, we focus on cybersecurity. A range of Ajax devices now officially comply with the EN 18031 series of cybersecurity standards for radio equipment. Read on to learn more about this certification and its benefits for Ajax partners and end users.
What is the EN 18031 series of standards
The EN 18031 series is rooted in the Radio Equipment Directive (RED, Directive 2014/53/EU) — a key regulation ensuring the safety and proper performance of radio equipment placed on the EU market.
Ajax devices also comply with the RED requirements.
To address growing cybersecurity risks, RED was supplemented by Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30 (RED Delegated Act), which introduced additional essential requirements under Article 3(3), points (d), (e), and (f).
To help manufacturers comply with these new cybersecurity demands, the EN 18031 harmonized standards were developed. The series translates legal requirements into clear technical guidance for internet-connected radio equipment sold in the EU. It defines mandatory measures such as robust authentication mechanisms, data encryption, secure data storage, and privacy protection.
In practical terms, compliance with the EN 18031 series of standards proves that internet-connected radio devices:
- Do not compromise communication networks
- Protect user data and privacy
- Mitigate cybersecurity and fraud risks
Why this certification matters
With cybersecurity risks on the rise, protection verified by certification is not just about market access — it is also about earning customer trust. Compliance with the EN 18031 series reassures end users that a device will not compromise their network or expose them to spying or fraud. This added peace of mind is often a decisive factor that drives the customer to choose a certified device.
What Ajax devices are certified
The EN 18031 series consists of three parts: EN 18031-1, EN 18031-2, and EN 18031-3. All internet-connectable Ajax radio equipment available on the EU market is currently certified to the first two standards.
