Broad access for non-admin users: more freedom, less workload

Broad access for non-admin users: more freedom, less workload

Imagine a professionally monitored site, such as an office, where a new employee needs system access from day one. Previously, only a PRO and user with admin rights could invite a new user – and only when the system is disarmed. If such an admin was unavailable or if a security group (for example, a server room) was permanently armed, the request had to wait or be escalated to the monitoring or service company.

Now, non-admin users and PROs can have broader access to system management. They change non-critical settings – in some cases, even if the system is armed. The updates mean fewer delays, less coordination, and reduced workload for monitoring and service companies – all without compromising site security.

What changes with the new functionality

Common changes in on-site routines tend to create an added workload for security system admins and monitoring or service companies. However, routine tasks – such as updating automation scenarios to reflect new opening hours, adding a staff member, or granting temporary access to a short-stay guest – do not require technical expertise. Moreover, they can be handled by non-admin users without posing any risk to the system.

To prevent routine requests from turning into a burden, Ajax Systems grants non-admin users and PROs with broader access to system management. System admins can decide which users can have extended permissions and define which management actions are allowed. At the same time, core system settings and critical device parameters remain available only to the admins.

Extended permissions for PROs – when the system is armed

PRO users can now modify settings even when the system is armed, which allows them to deal with the client requests more efficiently. Naturally, restrictions apply: any changes that could affect monitored devices or trigger events to a monitoring station remain unavailable.

PRO users now have permissions to adjust the following setting regardless of the system security status:

  • manage scenarios;
  • add new users to a space.

Non-admin user management permissions

End users can now modify settings themselves and avoid unnecessary delays when completing simple actions. Depending on the permissions granted by an admin, end users can now adjust the following settings in the disarmed system:

  • add new users to a space, except for PRO and company accounts;
  • manage access codes, in particular, personal User code, personal Duress code, and Unregistered user codes;
  • manage scenarios;
  • manage space information, including its name and photo;
  • manage rooms: create or delete rooms, rename them, and assign devices;
  • rename all system devices;
  • manage all settings for the devices that have event reporting disabled, e.g., cameras, Ajax WaterStop Jeweller, LeaksProtect Jeweller, or any other devices excluded by a monitoring company.

How to grant broader access

A user can be granted broader access to system management by a monitoring or service company, as well as a user or PRO with admin rights. The permissions are configured in Space settings through the Users tab. As for PROs, they have the new permissions by default provided the hub and Ajax apps are updated to the latest software versions.

Feature availability

Broad access is available in the following or later versions of Ajax apps:

The new functionality is available for spaces with or without hubs. Hubs supporting the extended permissions are Ajax Superior and Baseline hubs with OS Malevich 2.38 or later.
