How to run Radio signal strength survey

Radio signal strength survey enables installers to assess the Jeweller radio signal on site before installing Ajax EN54 Line devices. The survey is performed using EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller and a target device to determine an optimal installation location.

During the survey, installers can check current signal strength, save results for different locations, and export them as a report.

System requirements

Radio signal strength survey is available for EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller running OS Malevich 2.40 or later.

The feature is supported by the following or later versions of Ajax apps:

Operating principle

Radio signal strength survey helps evaluate the Jeweller radio signal quality between EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller and the selected device. Before starting the survey, install the CIE in its intended permanent location.

The app displays the current signal strength in dB and indicates its level:

  • No signal — the device has no radio connection with the CIE
  • Weak — one bar; 16 dB or less. Stable operation is not guaranteed
  • Medium — two bars; from 17 to 22 dB
  • Strong — three bars; 23 dB or more

Installers can test multiple spots across the site and save a result for each potential installation location. Each result includes the location name, signal strength in dB, Jeweller signal strength in bars, and average noise level. By default, locations are numbered sequentially, starting from 001, but installers can rename them.

The survey runs for up to 2 hours and can be stopped manually at any time. Only one device can be tested at a time.

Saved results remain available after the survey is stopped or the user leaves the survey screen. Individual results can be renamed or deleted. Installers can also clear all results or export them as a report containing the site, building, surveyor, and reference details.
