Meet SpeakerPhone Jeweller: a new way to verify alarms

In the realm of security systems, few issues are more challenging than false alarms. Even though the demand for security solutions that prevent false dispatches is evergreen, different markets historically prioritize various approaches. While some rely mainly on MotionCam detectors, others prefer to verify alarms using sound.

Ajax Systems always strives to respond to pressing market needs, so the company has developed SpeakerPhone Jeweller, a solution for audio alarm verification and more. The device is a voice module for direct calls between monitoring companies and secured sites. It combines market best practices and the new VoRF1 proprietary audio streaming protocol to provide high-quality, secure communication and clear sound. With this device, Ajax Systems introduces voice modules as a new product group in its portfolio.

Always on call for emergencies

In urgent situations, the count goes on for seconds, and security companies should be prepared to contact the secured site at any moment. With SpeakerPhone Jeweller, the monitoring company is always in touch with the facility and can react promptly and appropriately to any threat. In particular, the device helps central monitoring station CMS operators verify an alarm, deter intruders, and respond to an auxiliary alarm.

Audio alarm verification

SpeakerPhone Jeweller introduces voice calls as a new method of verifying alarms in an Ajax system. It lets a CMS operator check the situation in case of an alarm without searching for the property owner’s phone number. The operator calls the facility directly to ask a person on-site a control question or a code and listen to the surroundings. This way, a single call can prevent costly false security dispatches.

Deterring intruders

While sirens are a common method for alerting people to threats, they aren’t always effective. Intruders may anticipate them and choose to ignore the sound. With SpeakerPhone Jeweller, the CMS operator can talk to burglars directly. In this case, the intruders know the facility is actively guarded and being monitored in real time. The risk of being caught red-handed can make the intruders leave the site immediately, which minimizes the harm to the property and saves the security company’s resources.

Auxiliary alarm response

Responding promptly to a medical threat is often life-saving. In elderly and healthcare facilities, SpeakerPhone Jeweller helps support people with health issues who might need continuous supervision and emergency care. When an alarm or panic button is pressed, the CMS operator can instantly check the reason for it and choose the right response, saving invaluable time.

Effortless connection with a secured site

New communication protocol in the Ajax system

To provide real-time communication between SpeakerPhone Jeweller and the hub, Ajax Systems has developed a new proprietary protocol called VoRF (Voice over Radio Frequency).

The audio streaming protocol is based on the time division duplex technology, which uses the same frequency channel but different time slots to transmit signals in both directions. The technology ensures full duplex audio communication between the security company and end users without the need to activate the call on the facility side.

Communication via SpeakerPhone Jeweller is as simple as a standard phone call. It is simultaneous, meaning the speaker does not need to wait for the other person to finish talking. As a result, it prevents delays in information exchange and thus facilitates prompt response. The maximum duration of one call session can be adjusted in an Ajax app and set up for up to 10 minutes.

Versatile monitoring solutions

Ajax hubs use the SIP protocol to communicate with the security company. SpeakerPhone Jeweller supports two ways of contacting the secured facility to meet various communication architecture needs and habits.

  • Using a SIP server. Communication between the monitoring company and the site occurs through a SIP server. The company receives alarm notifications on its own monitoring software and can promptly request a callback from the hub via the SIP server.
  • Integrating Ajax into the CMS software2. The monitoring company can integrate Ajax into its monitoring software for interaction with the hub. In this case, the hub contacts the CMS software’s SIP server and can initiate a call automatically after an alarm.

Loud and clear: enhancing voice communication in a security system

AI-powered sound optimization

SpeakerPhone Jeweller features an AI-powered audio processor that addresses the common issue of noisy environments affecting voice audibility. An emergency can happen in a busy office, during a renovation, or at a noisy production plant — and still, clear communication is essential. The speakerphone’s smart processor suppresses extraneous noise and automatically adjusts sensitivity, allowing the person to be heard up clearly to 30 feet away.

Yet, noise cancellation is disabled by default and can be managed in an Ajax app. If a person on the spot does not respond to the call, the CMS operator might need to turn off noise cancellation. It helps them listen to the surroundings and detect potential intruder activity. The operator can set up AI-powered sound optimization instantly in an Ajax app to assess the situation more accurately in any case.

Powerful speaker

SpeakerPhone Jeweller has a high-quality speaker that minimizes the risk of missing a call while on site. The 3 W speaker produces a volume of up to 103 dB, which is almost as loud as the signal of an indoor siren. The voice module volume is configurable in an Ajax app, so the security company can choose one of three volume options according to the peculiarities of the facility, be it a small apartment or a large open space.

Comprehensive software and hardware protection

SpeakerPhone Jeweller follows the signature protection of Ajax devices. Using the proprietary Jeweller protocol, the voice module communicates with an Ajax hub at a distance of up to 5,550 feet in an open space. SpeakerPhone exchanges data with the hub through regular polling to report the device state. All stored and transmitted data is protected by block encryption with a dynamic key. Additionally, the hub authenticates the device during each communication session to prevent spoofing.

At the hardware level, SpeakerPhone Jeweller has a tamper that notifies the security company and users if someone tries to dismantle the device from the mounting panel. The system informs about any detected malfunction, sabotage attempt, or communication loss via data-rich notifications.

Hassle-free installation and maintenance

The installation of SpeakerPhone Jeweller takes minutes. The installer pairs the device with the system by scanning a QR code and installs the voice module using a SmartBracket mounting panel. There is no need to disassemble the enclosure or install batteries.

Stable performance with two power supply options

SpeakerPhone delivers impressive autonomy: up to 3 years of operation in standby mode and up to 12 hours in conversation mode on pre-installed batteries. The device can also be connected to a 12 V⎓ grid and use the pre-installed batteries as a backup. With such self-sustaining capabilities, the device does not require constant maintenance, and the users and the security company will be notified of low battery levels in advance via an Ajax app.

Streamlined support with over-the-air updates

SpeakerPhone Jeweller receives regular updates over the air3. The monitoring company does not need to provide on-site support, as the update process is automated. Constant support from Ajax Systems makes the device maintenance-free and cost-effective.

Bottom line

SpeakerPhone Jeweller marks the launch of a new product group that adds a new layer to the security system. The voice module is another communication link between the monitoring company and the secured site. It allows security companies to always stay in touch and give their clients a sense of protection without compromising their privacy. The combination of proprietary technologies, market best practices, thought-out protection, and easy installation and maintenance gives SpeakerPhone an edge within the industry.
