Challenge
Delivering modern fire protection with app-based control at an industrial-scale facility
Fileder required a reliable fire and life safety solution to replace the existing system at its large-scale warehouse. The three-story facility covers more than 54,000 ft² and is densely filled with metal racks, equipment, and other assets. This created a high-interference environment, adding complexity and challenges to the design of a wireless system.
At the same time, the client needed a modern ecosystem with smart automation and in-app controls. The cloud infrastructure of Ajax solutions was ideal for convenient system management by both on-site staff and the monitoring company. Meanwhile, automation capabilities would guarantee fail-safe system operation.
Solution
Wireless EN 54-certified fire protection system with visual event verification and in-app control
Nova Security Systems, the client's trusted fire and security services provider, built the new system around EN54 Line — a lineup of fire and life safety products by Ajax designed for commercial applications. It is a complete, fully wireless fire detection and alarm solution certified to EN 54 standards. With the signature Ajax approach to design, communication, and management, the system proved to be an ideal fit for the client's needs.
The fully wireless architecture saved days or even weeks during installation and system configuration. All 138 devices were deployed without cabling, device disassembly, or lengthy setup. With no wiring constraints, installers could choose the most effective location for each device.
Thanks to the proprietary Jeweller and Wings communication technologies from Ajax, device connectivity remained both encrypted and reliable even in a high-interference environment. As a result, a single system protected all three stories and over 54,000 ft² of the warehouse, requiring only one EN54 Fire ReX Jeweller range extender for complete wireless coverage.
The solution includes everything needed for comprehensive fire protection. With its 10.1" color touch screen, EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller combines modern design with intuitive on-site system control. It receives alarms from EN54 FireProtect (Heat) Jeweller and EN54 FireProtect (Smoke) Jeweller detectors, as well as the ManualCallPoint (Red) Jeweller button. These alarms clearly indicate the exact location of an incident. Within as little as three seconds, the system activates EN54 FireProtect (Sounder) Jeweller and EN54 FireProtect (Sounder/VAD) Jeweller devices, which alert everyone in the building to danger.
As part of the Ajax ecosystem, the CIE can enhance fire safety with alarm verification capabilities. To achieve this, Nova Security Systems added MotionCam (PhOD) Jeweller — an Ajax motion detector with a built-in camera — to each fire zone. When an alarm is triggered, the device follows an automation scenario and instantly captures on-site footage. The monitoring station can immediately determine whether it is a real threat or a false alarm and respond accordingly.
The Ajax system integrates on-site access, climate control, and lighting management to create a truly fail-safe system. EN54 I/O Module (2X2) Jeweller integration modules act as a bridge between Ajax devices and third-party systems, including access control, ventilation, lighting, air dampers, door holders, and car park barriers. When an alarm goes off, the system automatically activates these devices to help create clear escape routes and support fast and safe evacuation.
The entire ecosystem comes with free Ajax apps for smartphones and desktops. Through them, facility managers and end users have a complete overview of the system. Alongside the monitoring company, they receive alarms and events with the exact location, time, and triggered device, as well as photos from motion detectors and maintenance notifications — all within a single interface.
