Arming by device inactivity is an automation scenario that allows arming an entire Ajax system or separate groups or activating Night mode if no activity is detected on selected devices for a specified period.
The scenario helps prevent situations when a space remains disarmed after users leave the premises. For example, if someone forgets to arm the system, the hub can automatically arm the space or selected groups after the configured inactivity period expires.
System requirements
The Arming by device inactivity scenario is available for Ajax hubs running OS Malevich 2.43 or later, except for Superior Hub Hybrid and Hub (2G) Jeweller.
The new scenario is supported by Ajax apps of the following versions or later:
- Ajax Security System 3.55 (iOS/Android)
- Ajax PRO: Tool for Engineers 2.55 (iOS/Android)
- Ajax Desktop 5.55 (Windows/macOS)
- Ajax PRO Desktop 5.55 (Windows/macOS)
Operating principle
The Arming by device inactivity scenario starts monitoring activity on selected devices when the system or selected groups are disarmed. If none of the selected devices are triggered during the specified inactivity period, the hub performs the configured action. It can arm the entire space, arm selected groups, or activate Night mode.
The inactivity timer resets each time any selected device is triggered. After a reset, the hub restarts the inactivity period counter.
The scenario runs only when the entire system or selected groups are disarmed. If some of the selected groups are already armed when the scenario is activated, the hub arms only the groups that remain disarmed.
The scenario can run continuously or based on a schedule. If no days or time intervals are selected, it remains active around the clock. During the selected time interval, the hub continues monitoring the selected devices for inactivity. If the system or selected groups are armed by the scenario and later disarmed while the time interval is still active, the hub starts counting the inactivity period again. If no activity is detected, the hub rearms the system or selected groups.
For example, if the scenario is active from 10:00 a.m․ to 10:00 p.m․ and the hub arms the system at 1:00 p.m․, the scenario remains active until 10:00 p.m. If the system is disarmed during this period, the hub starts counting the inactivity period again. If no activity is detected on selected devices, the hub rearms the system.
How to create the Arming by device inactivity scenario
The Arming by device inactivity scenarios count toward the total number of automation scenarios. The maximum number of scenarios depends on the hub capabilities.
To create the Arming by device inactivity scenario, in an Ajax app:
Select a space.
Go to Settings by tapping the gear icon.
Select Scenarios and schedule.
Tap Create scenario or Add scenario if one or more scenarios already exist.
Select Arming by device inactivity.
Enter the scenario name.
Tap the Add trigger menu to select what triggers the scenario.
Tap Device inactivity and select the devices to monitor for inactivity during the specified period. Tap Next.
Set the device inactivity period from 1 minute to 24 hours. Tap Done.
If only motion detectors are selected as triggers, set the inactivity period to more than 3 minutes.
Tap the Add action menu to select what happens when the scenario runs: Arm or Night mode on. If Arm is selected, enable the Entire space or the Groups option.
Tap the Time period menu to select when the scenario runs. Specify the start and end time and select the days of the week. Tap Done.
You can add up to five time intervals for one scenario.
Tap Save to apply the settings.
Once created, the scenario appears in the Scenarios and schedule menu. The scenario is displayed on the Control tab in the app and can be quickly enabled or disabled.
