OS Malevich 2.12: Full control over the hub communication and even more features for Ajax sirens

OS Malevich 2.12: Full control over the hub communication and even more features for Ajax sirens

With OS Malevich 2.12 update, Ajax sirens get the ability to alert on door openings when the security system is disarmed, which is helpful in a store or private house. New parameters allow a more flexible configuration of notifications about entry/exit delays, including those in Night mode — so as not to disturb families sleeping at home.

Also, the new firmware will improve the fire alarm system and allow you to configure notifications about the loss of communication with Ajax Cloud over one of the channels: cellular, Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Notifications on the communication loss with a hub via one of the channels

Notifications on the loss of connection with the Ajax Cloud server become more informative. Now, in the service settings of a hub, you can select specific communication channels about which to report in case of a lost or disabled connection. You can set the delay for such a notification for up to 30 minutes. This functionality not only improves control over the communication of the security system for users but also can generate an alarm confirmation for a security company monitoring station.

For instance, according to Spanish laws, security companies should respond to a confirmed alarm only. It can be a sequential alarm of three different sensors or a sensor alarm followed by a specific system event. For example, when a monitoring station receives a notification about the loss of communication and the subsequent sensor alarm delivered via the backup channel, this will be a reason for a patrol dispatch.

Similar consequences will occur if both communication channels are disabled. Such response algorithms are used by security companies worldwide because they significantly reduce the cost of unnecessary patrols dispatches.

The blue bell

The Chime feature allows you to use an Ajax siren with an opening sensor as an analogue of a shopkeeper bell. It notifies store employees that a client has entered the door or — in a private house — that someone has entered through the back door.

The sound of the siren alert is short and different from the alarm, and its volume is adjustable in the app. There are 4 alert signals to choose from, which allows you to hear which door has been opened. After enabling the Chime feature, the blue bell icon appears in the Ajax app, indicating the state of the function. You can temporarily disable it with a tap.

The feature for Daniel

ajax chimes malevich

This year, we received several requests from Ajax users on Facebook and the Trustpilot review platform regarding siren alerts in Night mode. One of the first was Daniel Christiansson from Sweden, who did not like the siren waking up his children when Night Mode was activated. Daniel, we heard you!

Now, in the siren settings, alerts on the Night mode activation and delays are separated: individually for the entry and the exit. You can also set the volume of these alerts. No more annoying beeps at night.

You can change siren notification settings regardless of the firmware version.

Fire alerts in a multi-apartment building

With the filing of Elotec, our Norwegian partner, we continue improving the Interconnected Fire Detectors Alarm function. Together with Elotec, we have implemented the project for protecting a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Bergen in 2020.

The function saves lives by notifying all people in the building through the buzzers built into the fire detectors when at least one of them has detected fire. It allows people to be evacuated even before the fire rapidly spreads across a building.

However, in an apartment building, the interconnected alarm has a downside. Suppose the tenants were grilling a steak in one apartment, and the smoke triggered a false alarm. To prevent false alarms from spreading to detectors in all other apartments, tenants can delay the interconnected alarm. But it still carries risks for the whole house since one user judges the falsehood of the alarm. And the human factor must be minimized.

The problem is fixed in OS Malevich 2.12. Now the user can only mute the detectors of the same group — the user apartment, without affecting the detectors in other apartments. The user evaluates the falsity of a fire alarm only in his apartment, and if there is a danger to other residents, then the interconnected alarm will notify them of it. If a false alarm triggers an interconnected alarm in all apartments, only the system administrator can mute it.

How to get the update

The update is installed automatically when the security system is disarmed, and the hub is connected to an external power supply.

Support for OS Malevich 2.12 features depending on the hub model

Hub supports:

  • Configuring siren alerts in Night mode
  • Notifications about connection loss with Ajax Cloud via one of the communication channels

Hub Plus, Hub 2, and Hub 2 Plus supports:

  • The Chime feature
  • Configuring siren alerts in Night mode
  • Notifications about connection loss with Ajax Cloud via one of the communication channels
  • The updated logic for the interconnected FireProtect alarm

If you have not received the update, check if the automatic software update is enabled in the service settings of the hub. If you have any problems with this, our support team is ready to help 24/7.

Be sure also to update your Ajax app to use the new features.
