Operating principle

ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller enables manual alarm triggering in case of an emergency. To activate an alarm, lift the transparent protective lid and press the resettable frangible element in the center. This action moves the frangible element inward, raising the alarm. Two yellow stripes will appear at the top and bottom when the button is pressed.

To reset the device, insert the special bundled key into the corresponding hole.

After resetting, the button is ready to be reused.

The device features a transparent lid to prevent accidental presses. However, installing the lid is optional.

ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller can be added to the Ajax fire alarm central unit, CIE, or hub, which determines how it operates in the system.

When added to the Ajax fire alarm central unit or CIE

Ajax devices added to EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller or Type4 Hub (4G) Jeweller are assigned to one of 40 Fire zones. When an alarm is triggered in any zone or ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller is pressed, all sounders, VADs, and integration modules relays across the facility are activated.

ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller supports fire alarm scenarios. Configured in space settings, these scenarios enable automated actions when the button is pressed.

How to set up a fire alarm scenario

ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller operates in different modes: Fire alarm, Evacuation, Auxiliary alarm, Panic button (by default), Gas leak alarm, Fault alert, Water leak alarm, and Custom action.

In all modes except Custom action, the button raises an alarm regardless of the system security mode and activates relevant alarm scenarios. The system also transmits an alarm signal to the central monitoring station (CMS) and alerts users in Ajax apps. Transmitting alarms to the CMS is optional and can be configured in the button settings.

Operating in the Fire alarm mode, the device supports the Coincidence detection feature that helps reduce false alarms. When this feature is enabled, the system activates a fire alarm only if two or more independent detectors or actuators are triggered within a defined time window.

If ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller operating in the Evacuation mode is pressed, the system enters the Full alarm state immediately.

How to configure Coincidence detection in EN54 Line systems

When added to the Ajax hub

When ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller is pressed, the system activates Ajax automation devices through configured scenarios, such as turning the power of the devices on or off and unlocking the exit. Users and a connected CMS receive a notification under the Smart home event tab. Resetting ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller with a special tool (key) can also activate a scenario.

How to create and configure a scenario in the Ajax system

Use ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller to alert about fire, potential gas or water leakage, device issues, or other emergencies at the facility. The button can be configured to activate Ajax sirens when pressed.

ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller operates in different modes: Fire alarm, Auxiliary alarm, Panic button (by default), Gas leak alarm, Malfunction alert, Water leak alarm, and Scenario trigger. In the Fire alarm mode, pressing the button activates the built-in buzzers of Ajax fire detectors and Interconnected fire alarm if enabled. Buzzers remain active until ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller is reset.

In all modes except Scenario trigger, the button raises an alarm regardless of the system security mode and activates alarm scenarios. The system also transmits an alarm signal to the CMS and alerts users in Ajax apps. Transmitting alarms to the CMS is optional and can be configured in the button settings.

In Scenario trigger mode, pressing ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller allows controlling one or more automation devices.

To create an automation scenario for ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Ajax app and go to the Devices HubFilled-M tab.

  2. Select ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller from the list of devices and go to its Settings by tapping the gear icon Settings-M.

  3. Select the Scenario trigger mode in the Operating mode section.

  4. Go to the Scenarios menu. If you are creating a scenario for the first time, tap Create scenario. If you have created scenarios before, tap Add scenario.

  5. Set the button state to trigger an alarm scenario: Pressed or Reset. Tap Next.

  6. Select one or more automation devices to execute the action. Tap Next.

  7. Enter the Scenario name and specify Device action to be executed when ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller is pressed:

Sending events to the monitoring station

The Ajax system can transmit alarms to both the Ajax PRO Desktop monitoring app and the CMS in the formats of SurGard (Contact ID), SIA (DC-09) (SIA-DCS), ADEMCO 685, and other protocols.

ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller can transmit the following events:

  1. Fire alarm / recovery.
  2. Panic button alarm / recovery.
  3. Auxiliary alarm / recovery.
  4. Gas leak alarm / recovery.
  5. Malfunction or fault alarm / recovery.
  6. Water leak alarm / recovery.
  7. Scenario trigger / custom action.
  8. Tamper alarm / recovery.
  9. Loss/restoration of connection with the central unit, CIE, or hub.
  10. Permanent deactivation/activation of the button.

When an alarm is received, the operator at the security company’s CMS knows what happened and precisely where to dispatch a rapid response team. The addressability of Ajax devices allows sending events to PRO Desktop or the CMS, including the device type, its name, virtual room, security group or fire zone and location description. Note that the list of transmitted parameters may vary depending on the CMS type and the selected communication protocol for it.

Selecting the installation site

The device is intended for indoor installation only. Follow your local fire safety regulations when selecting the device installation site.

When choosing a location for ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller, consider the parameters that affect its operation:

  • Jeweller signal strength;
  • the distance between the device and the central unit or radio signal range extender;
  • the presence of barriers that might hinder radio signal transmission between devices, such as walls, interfloor ceilings, or large objects located in the premises.

ManualCallPoint (Black) Jeweller should be installed at a height of 4.6 ft above the finished floor level. Place the device in a discreet yet easily accessible location where instructed personnel can activate it without attracting attention. A lower mounting height is acceptable if the device needs to be accessible to wheelchair users.

Consider the placement recommendations when designing the security system project for the facility. The security system should be designed and installed by professionals. A list of recommended partners is available here.

Signal strength

The Jeweller signal strength is determined by the number of undelivered or corrupted data packages over a certain period of time. The icon SignalStrength-M on the Devices tab indicates the signal strength:

  • three bars — excellent signal strength;
  • two bars — good signal strength;
  • one bar — low signal strength; stable operation is not guaranteed;
  • crossed-out icon — no signal.

Where not to install the device

  1. Outdoors, as it can lead to false alarms and device failure.
  2. Inside premises with temperature and humidity levels outside the permissible limits, as this can damage the device.
  3. Closer than 3.3 ft to the central unit or radio signal range extender to prevent connection loss with the central unit.
  4. In areas with low or unstable signal strength, this may result in connection loss with the central unit.
  5. In hard-to-reach or poorly-lit places.

Installation

To mount the button:

  1. Remove the SmartBracket mounting panel from the button. To do this, insert the special tool into the hole and slide the mounting plate down.

  2. Fix the SmartBracket mounting panel using double-sided tape or other temporary fasteners. Place the mounting panel on a vertical surface at a height of 4.6 ft.

  3. Place the button, with the transparent lid closed, onto the SmartBracket mounting panel. The device's LED indicator will flash, signaling the tamper on the button is closed.

  4. Run the Jeweller signal strength test or Radio signal strength survey. Aim for a signal strength of two or three bars.

  5. Remove the button from SmartBracket.

  6. Securely attach the SmartBracket mounting panel using the bundled screws at all fixation points. One fixation point is located in the perforated part of the mounting panel, above the tamper. If using alternative fasteners, ensure they do not damage or deform the mounting panel.

  7. Reattach the button onto the SmartBracket mounting panel.

The special tool has a hole in its enclosure, making it handy to carry. Those responsible for fire safety might find it convenient to attach the special tool to their keychain.
