Superior HomeSiren Jeweller user manual

Updated

Superior HomeSiren Jeweller user manual

Superior HomeSiren Jeweller is a wireless siren for indoor installation. It informs users of events and alarms via an LED indicator and an audible signal with a sound level of up to 105 dB. The device supports connecting an additional wired LED and operates for up to five years on pre-installed batteries.

The siren communicates with a hub via Jeweller, a secure radio protocol for transmitting alarms and events. The communication range in open space is up to 6,550 ft.

Functional elements

Functional elements
  1. LED indicator.
  2. Siren buzzer covered with fabric.
  3. SmartBracket mounting panel. Its perforated part activates a tamper alarm if any attempt to detach the device from the surface is detected. Do not break it off.
  4. Hole to attach the SmartBracket mounting panel with a holding screw.
  5. QR code with the device ID. It is used to add the device to the hub.
  6. Tamper button. It is triggered when an attempt to detach the device from the surface or remove it from the mounting panel is detected.
  7. Connector for an external LED indicator.
  8. Power button.

Compatible hubs and range extenders

The siren requires an Ajax hub running OS Malevich 2.16 or later.

Operating principle

Operating principle

The device is equipped with a loud buzzer, which allows the siren sound to be heard from a distance. If the siren is installed correctly, it will be difficult for an intruder to dismantle and deactivate it. Superior HomeSiren Jeweller has an autonomous power supply and a robust enclosure with a holding screw used for securing the device. The power button is blocked when the system is armed.

The siren performs four tasks:

  1. Informs about alarms. The siren responds to tamper and system alarms. It is loud enough to scare away intruders and attract the neighbors' attention.
  2. Indicates the security state. The siren uses LED indication to show that the facility is armed and an audible signal to inform about entry/exit delays. These features are helpful for systems controlled via key fobs or keypads: the siren reminds users to disarm the system upon entry.
  3. Notifies users when a door is opened (Chime). Sirens inform users with a special sound that opening detectors have been triggered when the system is disarmed. The feature is used, for example, in stores to alert employees when customers enter.
  4. Indicates an alarm until the system is disarmed. The siren's built-in LED and an external LED (if connected) flash after an audible signal is emitted. Thanks to this feature, users and passing security patrols can see that the siren has been triggered.

Jeweller data transfer protocol

Jeweller is a proprietary radio protocol that provides fast and reliable two-way communication between the hub and devices. The siren uses Jeweller to transmit alarms and events.

Learn more

Sending events to the monitoring station

An Ajax system transmits alarms and events to the Ajax PRO Desktop app and the monitoring station in the formats of SurGard (Contact ID), SIA (DC-09), ADEMCO 685, and other protocols.

Superior HomeSiren Jeweller can transmit the following events:

  1. Tamper alarm / tamper button recovery.
  2. Loss and restoration of connection with the hub (or the radio signal range extender).
  3. Permanent siren deactivation/activation.
  4. One-time siren deactivation/activation.

When an alarm is received, the monitoring station operator knows what has happened and where to dispatch a rapid response team. Ajax device addressability enables the system to send events to Ajax PRO Desktop and the monitoring station with the device type, name, security group, and virtual room specified. Note that the list of transmitted parameters may vary depending on monitoring software and the selected communication protocol.

Adding to the system

To add Superior HomeSiren Jeweller to the hub, locate the siren at the same secured facility as the system (within the range of the hub radio network). If the siren operates via a radio signal range extender, first add the siren to the hub and then connect it to the required range extender in its settings.

Before adding the device

  1. Install an Ajax PRO app.

  2. Log in to your PRO account or create a new one.

  3. Select a space or create a new one.

Functionality testing

An Ajax system provides several tests to help select the correct installation place for the siren. The tests do not start immediately. However, the waiting time does not exceed the duration of one device polling interval. The polling interval can be checked and configured in the hub settings (Hub → Settings Settings-M → Jeweller or Jeweller/Fibra).

To run the test, in an Ajax app:

  1. Select the required hub.

  2. Go to the Devices HubFilled-M tab.

  3. Select Superior HomeSiren Jeweller from the list.

  4. Go to Settings Settings-M.

  5. Select the test:

    1. Jeweller Signal Strength Test.

    2. Volume Test.

    3. Signal Attenuation Test.

  6. Run the test.

Selecting the installation site

When choosing where to place Superior HomeSiren Jeweller, consider the parameters that affect its operation:

  • Jeweller signal strength.
  • Distance between the siren and the hub (or the radio signal range extender).
  • Obstacles that may interfere with radio signal and sound transmission, such as walls, interfloor ceilings, and large objects on the premises.

Consider the recommendations for placement when developing a project for the security system of the facility. Only a specialist can design and install the system. A list of recommended partners is available here.

Recommended installation height is 2.5 m or more. This will make it more difficult for intruders to access the device.

Jeweller signal strength

The Jeweller signal strength is determined by the number of undelivered or corrupted data packets over a certain period of time. The SignalStrength-M icon in the Devices HubFilled-M tab indicates the signal strength:

  • Three bars — excellent signal strength.
  • Two bars — good signal strength.
  • One bar — low signal strength; stable operation is not guaranteed.
  • Crossed-out icon — no signal.

Where not to install the siren

  1. Outdoors. This may cause the siren to malfunction.
  2. In places where an audible signal may be attenuated, such as inside furniture, behind thick curtains, etc.
  3. Near any metal objects or mirrors that may cause signal attenuation or screening.
  4. In places with temperature and humidity beyond the permissible limits. This may damage the siren.
  5. Closer than 3.3 ft to the hub (or the radio signal range extender). This may result in communication loss between the siren and the hub.
  6. In places with low signal strength. This may result in communication loss with the hub.

Installation

Installation

To install the siren:

  1. Unscrew the holding screw. Then, remove the SmartBracket mounting panel from the siren by turning it counterclockwise.

  2. Secure the SmartBracket panel using double-sided adhesive tape to the selected installation site.

  3. Place the siren on SmartBracket and turn it clockwise. The device LED indicator will start flashing, indicating that the tamper button on the siren is closed.

  4. Run the Jeweller signal strength test. The recommended signal strength is two or three bars. If it is low, we do not guarantee the device's stable operation. Consider relocating the device, as repositioning even by 8" can significantly improve the signal strength. If the signal is still poor or unstable after the relocation, use a radio signal range extender.

  5. Run Volume test.

  6. Run Signal attenuation test. During the test, the signal strength is artificially reduced and increased to simulate different conditions at the installation location. If the installation site is chosen correctly, the siren will have a stable signal strength of 2–3 bars.

  7. If the tests are successful, remove the siren from SmartBracket.

  8. Secure the SmartBracket panel to the surface using bundled screws.

  9. Place the siren on SmartBracket.

  10. Tighten the holding screw on the bottom of the siren enclosure. The screw is needed for more reliable fastening and to protect the siren from quick dismantling.

Installation

Connecting an external LED

You can connect an external LED to Superior HomeSiren Jeweller. This indicator works in parallel with the device's built-in LED and fully replicates its signals.

To connect, use the connector on the rear side of the siren enclosure. Observe the polarity when connecting: the black terminal wire is the "+" contact.

The output power supply is 3 V⎓, 10 mA.

To connect an external LED:

  1. Remove the siren from the mounting panel if it has already been installed.
  2. Route the external LED cable into the Superior HomeSiren Jeweller enclosure.
  3. Connect the external LED to Superior HomeSiren Jeweller using the provided connector.
  4. Check the operation of the connected external LED.
  5. Install the siren on the surface according to steps 3–10 described in the Installation section.

Maintenance

Check the siren regularly to ensure it is operating properly. The optimal check interval is once every three months. Clean the device enclosure of dust, cobwebs, and other contaminants as needed. Use a soft, dry wipe suitable for equipment care.

Do not use substances containing alcohol, acetone, petrol, or other active solvents to clean the siren.

The batteries installed in the siren ensure up to 5 years of autonomous operation with a polling interval of 1 minute or at least 6 hours of buzzer sound.

If the battery is low, the system will send an early notification that the battery needs to be replaced. When the system is armed, the LED will slowly light up green and go out.
